There are soo many reasons. It would take a long article to write it. May be I will write one at some point soon. But here are some on top of my brain- - Serious lack of vision- - No clue about the current status of IT in other country and where we stand - too much leap frogging without a uniform development in infrastructure - mMost law-makers are totally uninformed about the importance of IT, - Lack of defining a unique field of IT in Bangladesh that would give us competitive advantage (to be more specific- India used software development and call center as their big thing, China went for cheap manufacturing, Singapore on BioTech). - Serious lack of coordination and fairness to reward contract to small busines - Transparency and honesty in government - No ecommerce - No egovernance - and soo many more

"IT: We wished, with hope" There were always some horse trading regarding IT professionals and IT industries in Bangladesh. Our worn-out telecommunication infrastructure and the lack of farsighted policies never let this industry boom, but the reverse has happened with India and China. A little state-level commitment can help project our IT professionals into the world market. Needless to say, our biggest source of forex currently comes from our expatriates. Beside sending fisherman to Korea, security guards and nurses to the Middle East etc, let's send some of our IT professionals abroad. When Microsoft says they have got a long term commitment to India and also plans to invest billions in China for further research of its products, we the poor IT fellows of Bangladesh look upto our ministry of science and technology for some hope. Our IT professionals can emulate their counterparts in India or China, but lack of state level backup is obstructing this possibility. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the Ministry of Science and Technology can conjointly find some new markets for pushing in Bangladeshi IT professionals. Notably countries like Germany, Canada and Australia need a large number of IT professionals, which we are ready to provide. Microsoft Corp plans to hire 6,000 to 7,000 employees worldwide during its current fiscal year. Only state-level arrangement between the two sides can ensure that our IT professional step into the worlds market. Many of my countrymen are already working for some big IT giants such as Microsoft inc., Oracle corp., Hewlett- Packard etc, performing commendably. In China the state-level body communicates with big IT giants and invites them to invest in their land of high potential. Time to time they do campus recruiting and at the same time maintain a large human resource database for regularising their process. The same strategy is followed by India to attract IT giants. We can implement our neighbour's policy by steadily closing the gap between our strength and technology. It is always better late than never. --------------- Taufiq Haider Chowdhury Dept of Information Engineering, Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, China, 410083

Lack of high speed data transmission facility due to procrastination on the part of the incumbent government in linking the country with information super highway and re-imposition of import duty on computer, parts & components and peripherals in the current national budget.

1. Internet should be expand all over the country as soon as possible at a chief rate. 2. People should be aware of the best use of computer and Internet culture and govt. should take the neccessary steps.

Govt has no plan to set up any Software Technology Park!!And first of all nobody will start a Software company in this country where Govt. and the political parties make every second day a strike or Fashion Show of Strengt!! There is no infrastructure and i think Political Stability is the Main Crisis for my country(Bangladesh). I myself fill ashemed to see the political developments in the country.Remember making the latent pool of software professional without creating any job opportunies will make the situation more severe.....!!!

I have voted "no". Because we need best talented studets/professionals for IT development. But from 90s, in the name of IT education, we opened thousands of cheap/commercial IT institutes (like coaching centres) to educate medium quality/lower quality students. They did not become programmers or IT professionals because they dont deserve it. In the name of IT revolution we sold lot of computers which only used as gaming machine/internet surfing in brief entertaining machine, not as a machine for education. As a result only frustration and frustration, students lost their ambition to become IT professionals. On the other hand thousands of professionals/students/graduates of engineering-science-medicine-technical background are jobless or doing in approprite jobs. We could utilise them irespective of age to turn them IT professionals. Now, time for to do that. Otherwise Bangladesh will never become a IT hub. Govt./ different organizations can fund to train these unused talents.

The reason I think that We are not in the right track because the Govt seems quite stupid about the IT boom. Doing some seminars and speeches for IT development wont do anything. We need implementation. We could hint out the example of submarine cable. I dont have to say how stupid we've been so far in this matter. There are numoerous other issues which cant be put in this little opinion text box.

Bangladesh Govt. are taking necessary steps but those are only in papers. Beacuse of some faulty placement of people thses are not implemeted as first as necessary. Related persons should take steps in fields to perform duties not to show foreign peronnels.

We the bangladeshi It means a computer, ms word, Excel, Typing: thats it.Our education system delivers a lot of computer gradutes every year but Govt. have no plan about their work area. We are not connect with high speed data connectivity so we are not part of the world every second. we have no Expert It professionals. We have 160 ISP but all are situated in Dhaka city but we have 64 districts. Our Land phone structure is limited, internet price is high for general. So I have enough arguement about the topic stated above.

I believe, we are the greatest example of a nation where those are in the decision making sector doesnt know or havent possess any knowledge about Computer/IT/ICT or even know the meaning of the word digital appropriately. So a disparity is becoming largely visible between the age group of above forty five (Decision maker) with the age group below forty five. That causes a miscommunication which seems to be fatal to me in regards of a sound development of IT sector. I have also amazingly found that most of the members of the above forty five age group are reluctant to learn basic computer operations thus are fall behind and I would also like to say they are loosing a chance to enrich their analytical skill which would be very much helpful for their decision making activities. And when I think about Internet I feel I am the smartest guy of all. It gives me every think from finding a man to meet spell his name correctly or bla bla ( Continued) So the first initiative should have taken by the Govt. is reducing the disparity between the age group and then form a independent working body incorporated with different age groups member and prepare a precise plan towards development and working for that which havent seen yet. So there is no way to say that Bangladesh is on the right track of IT development.

When I was only 10 years old, my mum taught me, a person without education is just like a person wthout eyes.I still realize the truth of her lesson. Firstly we need to teach our policy maker about IT and then we need to think whether these people are doing wrong or right? Bangladesh is seriously a backword country in the world but it has got many brilliant IT professionals and our honorable policy makers are still arguing of VOIP security, still arguing of so called democracy with serious poverty. We need to make clear that Bangladesh has got nothing but cheap labor force and we need to utilize them.Software development is something that can be happend anywhere in the world, then why only INDIA,CHINA are taking the whole market. The answer is very simple. Thier policy is much more smart and open. They knew this market earlier ane they initiated their efforts earlier.Population control, industrialization, cool democratic society, educated work force, modern and scientific government policy can solve almost all the problems and can help to develop our country economically.Economy is the heart of a country. When the economy of a country is bad, then every thing will get worse. With this poverty and so called agricultur-based economy, IT never can flourish in a full mood but still there is a little hope for software outsorcing and IT People outsourcing business,if the government and our industrialists come accros with right channel and with great hope.I beieve, our poor governemt can't solve all the existed problems, so it is necessary for rich people to come over and to give a hand to improve the IT sector in Bangladesh. Every body knows that India is rich in software outsourcing but any experience person knows that nearly 100% of IT sectors are private companies or foreirn invested. What is India governement doing?Indian Government is facilitating the taxing law, giving the business men lands, financial support, making roads for them, giving them security and keeping high level governement relation with other countries. And now, let's think about Bangladesh and IT. I really feel funny sometimes to think of my motherland.Sometimes I feed sad.We Bangladeshi are so unlucky in this world that we alwasy realize things when it is too late.
